Animated Feature Films’ Tryst with the Oscars

The archetypical Gen Y kid –such as I- has grown up on animation. While the likes of Mickey Mouse had been around for a long time, the 1990s were a real brewing ground for animated films and television series. And yet, it was not until 2001 that the ‘Academy Award for Best Animated Feature’ came into contention at the Academy Awards. Surprising, isn’t it?

The Academy’s rationale for the late entry of animated films into the Oscars was that the genre just didn’t offer enough until that point. However, let’s not discredit the Academy for having conferred special Oscars to outstanding animated feature films prior to 2001. These included the likes of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and Toy Story. The highlight of the animation industry at the Oscars until 2001 however, was that Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (1991), received a nomination for ‘Best Picture’!

But if the 90s held little scope for your dream of winning an Oscar, then the 21st century is yours for the taking! Sign up for Animation Courses In India and enter the wondrous world of global animation… You just might have a shot at an Oscar!

But remember, while the 90s scarcely produced many animated films, the industry is now rapidly growing. Catching an animated flick was a rare occurrence back in the day, but today, they’re filling up the cinemas! Coupled with the technological advancements the world has witnessed since then, the animation industry is a pool of opportunity these days. Creativity, story-telling abilities, skill, technique and an animation mentor are all you need to break into the wonderful world of animation. And who knows, following the likes of Shrek, Finding Nemo, WALL-E, Brave, and Frozen, amongst many others –you could perhaps stand the chance to win an Academy Award one day, and bring the tryst with the Oscars right to our motherland!
